Obituary

Jean Bell, 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 4, 2025. She was born May 23, 1951 to the late Russell and Thelma Bell. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter Amy Harvey and sister Ellen Johnson. Jean was a longtime member of Northside Church. She was a stay at home mom when her girls were growing up. There was nothing she loved more than her girls. After they grew up she began teaching Pre-K which she loved. More recently, she was the caretaker for a very special friend, Bett Tharrington. There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her precious granddaughter Ciara, who lovingly referred to her as Mema. Together they enjoyed lunch dates at El Jimador, and playing games but most of all she was Ciara’s biggest cheerleader. Jean also enjoyed country music, traveling with Rick, watching TV and spending time with her family.

Jean leaves to cherish her memory, her companion Rick Adams; daughter Traci O’Conney (Al); granddaughter Ciara O’Conney; special niece Angie Starkweather (Kevin); great nieces Brittany Jones and Emma Johnson; nephew Wayne Johnson (Heather); great nephews Travis Starkweather (Kendall) and Garrett Johnson; great-great nephew Maverick Macklin.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025, 7:00pm-8:30pm at Cornerstone Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 11:00am at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Pridgen and Rev. Clay Leonard officiating. The burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff at ECU Health Hospice House for their kind and compassionate care in the last few days.
